How to Care for a Flexible Partial
Daily cleaning without toothpaste, first-week soft-food tips, and why nobody can promise how many years a custom partial lasts. Fit help if it rubs.
A custom partial is custom-made from your own impression to fill your gaps. How you clean, store, and eat with it shapes how it looks and feels over time.
How long does a flexible partial last?
Nobody can honestly promise a number of years. Appearance and lifespan vary by case and care. (Source: Klyros product terms.) The habits below are what you can control.
Daily care
- Take it out at night unless your dentist tells you otherwise.
- Clean it every day without toothpaste. Toothpaste can be too harsh for dentures. Use a soft brush and a non-abrasive cleaner. (Source: ADA MouthHealthy, Partial Dentures.)
- Soak it as directed by the cleaner's instructions or your reviewing dentist.
- No hot water, no harsh cleaners. Use cool or lukewarm water.
- Store it in its case, never a napkin. Napkins are how partials get thrown away.
Eating with a new partial
The first days can feel awkward. That's normal for partial dentures in general. (Source: ADA MouthHealthy, Partial Dentures.)
- First days: stick to soft foods.
- Cut food into small pieces.
- Chew on both sides so pressure stays even.
- Give it about a week before tougher foods like steak. (Source: Klyros eating pack 2026-10-25.)
- Sticky or very hard foods: ask your reviewing dentist before you try them.
- Does it rub when you eat? That's a fit question, not something to just put up with.
